Sustainable Design

ctd architects have a proven track record for designing successful and sustainable masterplans and buildings creating the best possible environment for the client and end user. We design sustainable buildings that will last with low-carbon emissions and passive energy-saving solutions wherever possible, using modern methods of construction.

We aim to incorporate appropriate technologies in all our projects to achieve economic and holistic design solutions that add value and are environmentally sustainable in terms of their impact on the earth’s precious resources, as well as being affordable for the client.

We have successfully achieved BREEAM ‘Excellent’ ratings for both healthcare facilities and retrofit family EcoHomes.

Conservation

ctd architects have extensive experience in historic building conservation with specialist knowledge of the use of traditional materials and their preservation and repair.

We specialise in the repair, adaption and creative re-use of historic buildings, whilst aspiring to include new innovative insertions through modern and traditional technologies to realise our clients aspirations.

Through the understanding of the unique architectural and historic character of the building and adopting a careful and considered design approach, through material choice and attention to detail, we ensure that the buildings original architectural character, and its ‘heritage value’ is not compromised to safeguard its future sustainability and conservation for generations to come.

Renal Dialysis

Working closely with both NHS Hospital Trusts and private healthcare providers, ctd architects have been instrumental in the successful delivery of over 40 dialysis centres throughout the UK and Ireland ensuring compliance with NHS guidelines, with a focus on high quality building design, providing the best possible patient experience and well-being.

Our services include assistance with finding sites and premises, planning and change of use approvals, detailed design, specification and site administration for numerous types of projects inclusive of new build, refurbishment, adaption and extension together with home dialysis provision.

Our aim is to keep abreast of changing healthcare requirements and through good design, assist in the provision of state of the art dialysis centres ensuring patients feel good about their environment thus getting the greatest advantage from their delivered treatment.

Anti Ligature Survey

ctd architects anti ligature services

ctd architects are experienced in working with Mental Health Trusts and Private Facilities from initial concepts through to construction on site to deliver a modern and safe environment.

ctd architects undertake a site survey in partnership with all stakeholders to identify any potential ligature issues. We will then provide a detailed scheme for a new project or remedial actions for existing facilities to remove identified ligature points.

Retrofit | Smart Refurbishment

Refurbishment brings particular challenges; however at ctd architects we look at the whole building strategically in order to make the best use of space, improve the building fabric and devise an energy strategy that reduces carbon emissions.

We have a long established record of terrace house ‘retrofit’ refurbishment projects, championing the process of creative refurbishment and renewal, over the inefficient and un-sustainable clearance of perfectly good quality housing stock. We have gained valuable experience working in collaboration with both private and public sector stakeholders and have won many accolades for our urban renewal work including our award-winning REd brick : green hoUSE heritage facelift, eco-refurb. terrace housing scheme – an innovative model that could easily be applied to other areas across the country.

Landscape

We believe landscape is as equally important as the design of buildings in creating appealing and sustainable environments. Where possible our projects include carefully designed landscapes that make the most of their context and bring environmental benefits through good quality design and choice of materials, fulfilling functional needs as well as creating an attractive place.

Masterplanning

ctd architects are experienced at masterplanning for both urban and rural areas. We aim to create beautiful, successful and sustainable places that are sensitive and contextual to the specific place, welcoming, safe and accessible for all, creating an appealing environment where people want to live.

We also act on behalf of a number of organizations, where we have produced site specific coherent development plans to clearly identify future expansion goals and phasing for new build, refurbishment and adaption projects.

Engagement

As part of the design process, ctd architects will engage with all stakeholders to help understand their requirements and aspirations. This enables us to understand our clients and focus on the true functionality and objectives of a particular project and achieve agreement about the course of action and the outcomes to be achieved.

ctd architects are experienced in design and arts led community engagement, specialising in working collaboratively with local authority’s, clients, community organisations and volunteers, and are very skilled at organising and participating in community architecture design and creative arts based workshops.

Interiors and Fit Out

At ctd architects we believe that early consideration of a building’s interior is an essential element for the building’s success in terms of function, circulation, light and feel.

When designing a building we ensure the interior layout, finishes and fittings all complement the overall building design, to create attractive spaces that work well and deliver on client aspirations with a focus on providing the best possible end-user experience and well-being.

With in-house architects, landscape and interior designers we are able to provide an integrated design service that considers the building design in its entirety.

Building Information Modelling (BIM)

ctd architects fully embraces BIM using Autodesk Revit software, which is a powerful building information modelling programme that works the way architects think – this enables our organisation to visualise more creative designs and optimised engineering solutions providing better ways to inform and communicate project decisions and delight clients.

We believe BIM is an intelligent modelling design process that adds value across the entire lifecycle of building projects. Using Revit and a collaborative working method, we can produce detailed building models for pre and post planning.
