Patrick Redmond, Architect Director at ctd architects is profiled in the Staffordshire Moorlands Chamber of Commerce “How I got where I am today…” feature in the Leek Post & Times newspaper
I grew up in North Staffordshire, moving to Birmingham where I studied for my degree in architecture at Birmingham School of Architecture, completing my architectural studies at Edinburgh University in 1989 and becoming a registered architect in 1991, choosing to live in North Staffordshire for all the right reasons. I previously worked with Hulme Upright Partners in Stoke-on-Trent, Eaton Manning Wilson Associates and joined ctd architects in 1998. I became a director in 2002 and in a very short period of time helped to fashion the practice from a small company into a highly skilled and successful award-winning regional practice with specialisms in contemporary design, economic development, urban regeneration, housing renewal, conservation and healthcare from our offices on Clerk Bank in Leek, North Staffordshire.
As a multi-skilled architect’s practice, we have seen our business grow substantially over the past two decades as we continue to take on larger commissions whilst still being approachable for smaller projects and domestic work. For 2019 we will be looking to maintain our growth, serving clients in commercial and industrial development; conservation and heritage projects and healthcare. A personal interest of mine is in new housing and eco-sustainable developments. We are committed to investing in staff training and we are proud to support good causes and charitable groups.
Being a Chamber member gives us the benefit of access to specialist knowledge and support for our advancement and knowing there is an organisation promoting North Staffordshire businesses to a wider audience is good. The networking opportunities the North Staffordshire Chamber gives us and the access to local decision makers is highly valuable to our practice.
The advice I would have given to my 16-year-old self would be; Listen to your Mum and Dad, be more confident and assertive but never be ashamed to admit you have been wrong. It only proves you are wiser today than yesterday.
