Leek Gateway Project
Client : | Staffordshire Moorlands District Council
Location : | Leek, Staffordshire
Value : | £5m |
The objective was to improve and rejuvenate the existing road gateways into Leek which have suffered considerable change from economic decline, twentieth century clearance and piecemeal redevelopment.
Our proposals sought to provide a new vision for the area; creating ‘place from space’. A fundamental component of the master planning was to form an Arts Plazza/public square linked to the refurbishment and conversion of Cross Street Mill, London Mill and York Mill into a Mixed-Use Arts, Heritage, Work and Live Centre. This addressed the areas problems in a bold and exciting way giving purpose to the regeneration of the surrounding buildings. The remaining gateway roads would receive landscaping schemes and art installations as a way of lifting the environment and generating individual character.
