The Pickwood Street master planning exercise focuses on the physical, social and economic improvements of a popular but unattractive pedestrian and vehicular gateway into Leek Town Centre. The site is dominated by a “supermarket” building whose blandness is unredeemed by the absence of attractive public space, greening and landscaping.
The poor integration of the site, into a clear town centre shopping circuit, inhibits shopper circulation and impacts adversely on retailers in adjacent shopping areas. Property, land and business owners are all eager to see the area revitalized and better integrated into the town centre.
